ATA Connection Introduces Non-Stop Service Between South Bend and Chicago-Midway

INDIANAPOLIS, June 25 /PRNewswire/ -- ATA (American Trans Air, Inc.) today announced it will initiate non-stop commuter service between South Bend, Indiana and Chicago's convenient Midway Airport via the ATA Connection, a wholly-owned subsidiary of ATA. Beginning September 15, 2000, customers will be able to select from four convenient non-stop flights to and from Chicago every weekday. Through Midway, travelers can easily connect to 24 cities throughout the ATA system. Weekend flights will also be available.

``We are excited about bringing our low-fare service to the South Bend-Mishawaka region and anticipate a warm reception to our announcement,'' said John Tague, ATA's President and CEO. ``ATA's presence will immediately link our new customers with all of ATA's other great destinations through our Midway hub.''

South Bend's Airport Director, John Shalliol, agrees. Says Shalliol, ``The new air service to Midway Airport provides us with low-fare connections to the most popular destinations in the country and will help keep our existing carriers competitive in the South Bend marketplace. We are extremely grateful to ATA for providing us with this opportunity to expand our services to the area's air travelers.''

In conjunction with the start-up of service, ATA Connection has signed a lease agreement for a hangar on the airport property, and plans to relocate its Saab 340B maintenance facility there from Grand Rapids, Michigan. While most employees will be making the move to South Bend, ATA also plans to hire approximately 40 people locally as mechanics, mechanic helpers, aircraft cleaners, and customer service personnel.
